I would like to ask Skin Biology an opinion about Magnesium Citrate supplements.
I have been taking Magnesium Citrate powder for years. It is the only magnesium form that I know of that is tasteless and I prefer powders to pills. I typically sprinkle 1 teaspoon of magnesium citrate on a meal, once or twice a day. 1 tsp = 3325 mg Magnesium Citrate = 540 mg elemental Magnesium.
I recently read some references that magnesium, in the form of magnesium citrate, interferes with copper absorption by its negative effect on ceruloplasmin. However the literature seems quite conflicted on the topic. That's why I thought about asking Dr. Pickart and the SB crew.
Among the many supplements I take, I also take 5 mg a day of copper in the form of Chelated Copper and 30 mg a day of Zinc (in the form of Zinc Amino Acid Chelate).
Is it ok to take magnesium in the form of magnesium citrate or should another form be preferred due to its interference with copper?
